Clinical Services
Australian Centre for Psychoanalysis (ACP) offers a variety of clinical services that promote the aims of the centre according to its guiding principles. These clinical services are provided by both Registered Practising Analysts and Practising Analysts (Analyst Candidates) of the ACP who have are or currently undergoing training according to the ethic and procedures that govern this process, which may include courses run by the ACP.
Registered Practising Analysts (RA) is a list of members who are recognised by the ACP as competent practitioners of psychoanalysis. Members of the Register authorise themselves as Practising Analysts and are confident to practice in accordance with this authorisation, in the direction of treatments, the presentation of cases and involvement in case discussions. Their psychoanalytic competence has been recognised by the ACP through their having fulfilled the components of a training; personal analysis, clinical supervision, presentation of two training cases, a course of theoretical studies equivalent to our four year program of clinical and theoretical studies, and through having given an account of their work to their peers, over many years. The ACP offers a public guarantee that the applicant has undergone training and is able to practice as a psychoanalyst.
Practising Analysts (PA) includes a number of analysts who are in the process of formation and fulfilling the components of training outlined above. Each Practising Analyst gives an account of their work to their peers at a number of forums within the ACP; most particularly the Clinical Seminar Program, and the Clinic Group. All listed practitioners have in place the necessary professional links and professional indemnity insurance to receive patients. As members of ACP, Practising Analysts are bound by the centre’s codes of conduct and ethics as stated in the Constitution.
Both Registered Analysts and Practising Analysts provide an account of their work at an annual review. In this review, the areas of analysis, supervision, training and legal and ethical complaints and professional development are addressed.

List of Registered Practising Analysts (RA)
The ACP, in the structure of its processes of recognition, maintains a separation between the process of training/formation of an analyst and the moment when an analyst might put themselves forward to become a Registered Practicing Analyst of the ACP.
Inclusion in the ACP’s register of Practising Analysts is pursued by members applying to the ACP Register Committee, and it is dependent on the committee being satisfied that all the components of a psychoanalytic training have been adequately carried out to the extent that the candidate can be recognised by the Centre as a Registered Practising Analyst. ACP Clinic
Introduction
In this often complex and demanding world, it is not uncommon to feel unsettled, disconnected, unsure or unhappy at some stage. These experiences may not easily pass, and you might find it useful to see an analyst to work through the issues you consider are holding you back. Through the ACP Clinic, we offer a talking therapy where we work with you as an individual, focusing on your unique life experiences. We provide a therapeutic structure in which to work through the conscious and unconscious factors that continue to shape your life and affect your ability to deal with current difficulties.
Aim of the Clinic
To provide access to psychoanalytic treatment for adults and children. The treatment will be conducted by Registered Analysts or Practicing Analysts who are members of the ACP.

Messages will receive a response within two working days. If you prefer to send an email, please check your junk folder if a timely reply is not received. After a brief discussion with the Coordinator, you will be offered an initial consultation with an analyst.
Cost
Every effort will be made to offer analysis to those who desire it. No-one will be excluded on the basis of their ability to pay. On-going fees will be a matter for agreement between analyst and patient.
Supervision and Secondary Consultation
The Australian Centre for Psychoanalysis provides training for those interested in the field of psychoanalysis through its theoretical courses and seminars. Key to the transmission of psychoanalysis and to the training of psychoanalysts-to-be is the ongoing supervision of cases via a Registered Practicing Analyst in order to interrogate the direction of the treatment and its principles of power that are always at stake within each unique treatment.
Other colleagues in institutions or private practice may also wish to engage in secondary consultation about cases with analyst members of the ACP, in order to reflect in a different way on the treatment they provide when feeling stuck, at a loss or when faced with questions about their own role and position they hold. This can be useful in discrete cases, or as a more formal and consistent practice.
